The RateMyPlacement.co.uk Team graduated from Loughborough Uni in 2007 and would love to be in your position going back to uni now! Having said that, I am not sure we could handle 14 nights in a row of 're-freshing’ anymore!
So as recent graduates who all loved university, what's our advice?
1 - Work hard, play hard. Yes it's a cliché but sadly as you progress through the year, your workload inevitably increases... If you don't manage your workload well then life becomes difficult and stressful; ensuring you strike the right balance will mean when you do get the chance to ‘play’ you won’t have deadlines hanging over you.
2 - Build your CV. Work experience is invaluable on your CV and is often the first thing that employers will look for. Try and get as involved with Bright Futures as possible, look for work placement or internship opportunities or maybe even start something of your own....
3 - Get creative with ideas - We all started RateMyPlacement to help other students and boost our CVs; now the website employs 4 of us full time! You never know what can happen if you put your mind to something...
The RateMyPlacement Team all envy you, enjoy!

Given the state of the economy and the changing demographics of the workforce, developing skills that are transferable across industries and disciplines can be the difference between an individual’s long-term employability or a struggle to remain employed.'

NATIONAL TEAM NEWS
We are stupidly busy here at HQ gearing up for our National Committee Training Events in Manchester (15th September) and London (24th September) …
… We have two jam-packed days of networking, training and keynote speakers to kick start this academic year and we can’t wait. We’ve opted for funkier & bigger venues for these events to fit in with our long-term strategy and aim…to make employability much more fun!
Our new committees will be ready to host some great events and activities on campus for their local membership and all student members will have the opportunity to get more involved in all aspects of moulding the society to be what you want it to be!
There have been some fantastic developments over the summer and we can now welcome new societies at … …London SouthBank, UEL and Kent.
We have some potential presidents coming along to our National Events from the likes of Durham, Gloucestershire and Hull.
We some fantastic careers services support from Cardiff, Plymouth, Exeter, Kingston, De Montford, Cork, St. Andrews and Derby and activities are planned for the autumn term … so we hope to have some new societies established imminently!
The National Team have been working hard over the summer to secure lots of new Corporate Investors for our student members to work with! We are happy to announce that…
Audit Commission
Knowledge Transfer Partnership
UBS
Autosmart International
Standard Life
dunnhumby
CSC
Analysys Mason
... are now part of the network so check out their corporate profiles on the Bright Futures national website!
Over the summer, all of the Bright Futures societies have been busy …
…handing-over to new committees, generating sponsorship funds and planning activities for 2009/10 - as well as trying to relax before going back to uni!
This year’s handovers have been really well executed, paving the way for a fantastic year with strong committees and plenty of exciting new ideas!
L'Oreal Brandstorm Competition
Once again Bright Futures is working with corporate Investor L’Oreal to promote it’s Brandstorm competition, where students from all over the world put themselves into the shoes of an International Brand Manager!
2009 will see teams taking on the Maybelline NYC brand with some fantastic prizes up for grabs. L’Oreal will be working with Bright Futures societies at Nottingham, Leicester, Lancaster and Loughborough this year.
Building on the model used last year representatives from these societies visited L’Oreal’s plush offices in London to meet the team responsible for the competition and be briefed.
They will hold Brandstorm launch events at their campuses and Bright Futures teams will then be able to enter into the competition.
Keep an eye on how the competition progresses this year as next year it could be the turn of your society to get involved!
For more information on what promises to be a very exciting competition click on http://www.brandstorm.loreal.com/Cand/index.asp
Leeds University Bright Futures plans to do things a little differently this year…
…hosting several larger events, which will involve 3-4 companies from the same industry on the same day.
This will be an excellent way to network with employers from industries such as banking & finance, consulting and retail amongst others.
We also plan to capatalise on Leeds' location and excellent facilities, making Leeds a 'staging centre' for the north!
We plan to invite surrounding Bright Futures societies to our events, giving an extra incentive to attract potential corporate companies.
Finally, we have doubled our committee size for this year, giving us lots more time for good organisation and innovative events.
Hopefully we will have a busy, but exciting term ahead of us.
Sweets and Chocolate Quiz
As you go back to Uni, this months ‘bit of fun’ should provide some great banter down at the SU bar! We all had a go at Bright Futures HQ and I can say that it all got a bit competitive!!! All of the answers to the questions are sweets or chocolates e.g. Lavender Ham would be Parma Violet!
Print out a copy and take it with you to pass the time between lectures! The first person to email it back with all the right answers will win a prize.
To put the rest of you out of your misery, the right answers printed in next month’s newsletter.
