  • Birmingham Bright Futures News

At the University of Birmingham Fresher's Fair we signed up 85 members to Birmingham Bright Futures and we also had over 100 people who wanted to be put on our mailing list!

Since Fresher’s we have had many students contacting us wanting to join the society. Our first event took place on the 19th of October with Deloitte who ran a presentation on internships and graduate opportunities as well as gave us application tips and hints.

We have already reached full capacity for this event! On the 27th of October we had an event with Accenture and in early November, Unilever are coming to Birmingham Bright Futures to run an exciting 'Dragon's Den' event. At this event, students will have the opportunity to carry out a pitch to the Unilever representatives and then be given feedback on how they performed.

  • Aston Bright Futures News

Aston Bright Futures has just signed up over 100 new members at the Freshers Fair and our welcome meeting. Thanks to Nestle, The College of Law and Unilever for sending us freebies to lure the poor students in with!

We are deep in the midst of finalising details for our Evening with Industry event on Friday 20th November at Aston Villa. The venue has been given a once over and we like the pitch-side views!

The event has been improved even further this year and we are offering the likes of a 2 course meal, special guest speaker, entertainment from Aston societies, a raffle, ‘innovative’ student competition and we have many more ideas up our sleeves!  If you would like to attend the event, or even sponsor it, please contact us on kirbycp@aston.ac.uk

  • Swansea Bright Futures News

At Freshers Fayre, Bright Futures Swansea signed up a total of 73 members, a number that is always increasing due to the popularity that many of our events are achieving when advertised.

Despite it still being early in the academic year, we already have a total of eight events confirmed, and that’s just for the first term. We’re held a social on the 12th October in order to get our members talking and to allow everyone to introduce them-selves. Following up to the 5th December, we have a range of talks, presentations and business games as well as another Christmas themed social.

We believe these events will be well attended as students gain valuable advice from businesses such as PriceWaterhouseCoopers, KPMG, ACCA, ICAEW and CIMA as well as the wide and varied number of business representatives that will attend our Dinner With Industry’ on the 26th November.

  • Brunel Bright Futures News

Brunel Bright Futures has had a progressive start to the year from Fresher’s Fayre to organising events for the upcoming months. Our fresher’s fayre in September was very successful.

The committee members were able to explain and certainly get the concept and ideas of how being in the Bright Futures society can be very beneficial. We managed to sign up 39 members on the day, but are increasing our members daily.

In November, we will be hosting an event to for members to build and develop their soft skills as well as selling yourself at interviews. We are currently in contact with Barclays Bank, CIMA and ACA to plan and organise a few events early next term. We are also in contact with Npower, Centrica and Nestle and plan to organise an “Engineering week” next term.

We are developing our own website within the society to advertise events, increase member interaction and to promote the society. To find out more about Brunel Bright Futures or to become a member, join our Facebook group: Brunel Bright Futures.

  • Leeds Bright Futures News

At the relatively infant Leeds division of Bright Futures, we have actively sought to further our presence on campus and increase our profile to extend and raise awareness of the opportunities we can offer fellow students.

This has been achieved by making extensive use of all available media outlets around campus, from TV-screens, newspapers, web and paper advertising; as well as giving short talks in lectures to a wide range of students. We have managed to effectively emphasize our unique selling point (how nationwide recruiters seek to find local talent via the Bright Futures Organisation) through our campaign slogan; ‘Recession Proof Your Career’.

We have found this method of advertising to be attention grabbing, attractive, and therefore effective as demonstrated by the fact our membership numbers have significantly increased and are continually growing.

We completely filled all places to our first event featuring Accenture and CSC, and are anticipating another high turnout for our next event. Given the increasing student interest, we are now looking towards inviting more companies and hosting our future events in larger venues so that we can offer more places at our events. We believe we have had a positive start to the year and are confident that our society will grow to be a huge success here at Leeds.
