OCTOBER 2008
ACCENTURE REACHES OUT TO CAREER FOCUSED STUDENTS…
The Bright Futures Accenture Mentoring Scheme kicked off on Wednesday 29th October 2008 with an action packed induction day at Accenture’s offices in London.
The focus of the mentoring is not just on Accenture, but in giving these talented students access to personal professional guidance on a variety of relevant topics including; career advice; job applications; job interviews; university work; time management; and support in running their Bright Futures society.
Hosted by Ali Mundell (Head of Graduate Recruitment at Accenture), the day was highly interactive, informative and most importantly…really fun!
Despite the grand corporate setting of an Accenture board room, Bright Futures students and their mentors were able to introduce themselves informally, exchange anecdotes, and discuss their expectations of the scheme.
The mentees were educated about different careers in the management consultancy industry and were informed about the kind of projects that Accenture are involved in with their clients. The day’s activities enabled the students to understand where they could fit into the business and acted as further inspiration and motivation for the already pro-active and driven Bright Futures committee members. After visiting the impressive offices and watching a DVD demonstrating ‘A Day in the Life of an Accenture Employee’, all the Bright Futures students are now able to visualise what they are striving towards and focus on their goals.
The Accenture Mentoring programme ties in with Bright Futures’ promotion of the ‘Foundations for Success’. Based on three core principles, the ‘Foundations for Success’ are;
i) Certainty of purpose (to use Bright Futures to assist in setting your goals);
ii) The Mastermind Principle (to use Bright Futures to surround yourself with those who can help you achieve your goals);
iii) Personal Ownership (to take personal responsibility for your own progress by being a proactive Bright Futures member).
Through Bright Futures, companies are able to successfully target & compete for the most career-focused and exceptional students and graduates in the UK.
“I came away so excited and buzzing! I now feel less worried about applying for jobs, and more excited about entering the real world! The day has given me more confidence and I am really eager to get as much help from my mentor as possible. My mentor was the perfect match as he works in the area I am interested in. I commend the Bright Futures team, and the Accenture team for putting this together.”
(Gemma, Swansea President 08/09)
“I thought last Wednesday was a fantastic opportunity for students to be involved with! I actually had such a good day and the dinner was the best added bonus ever!"
(Amy Fowell, Leeds President 08/09)
"The giraffe icebreaker was brilliant, and it was fun to see everyone's creative side! The Accenture staff are really down to earth and it was the sort of team we aspire to work within."
(Zara & Soniya, Birmingham joint Presidents 08/09)
In just one afternoon (and an evening of drinks and nibbles), Accenture employees successfully managed to disseminate the myth of the “scary corporate” and reminded the impending graduates that corporates (in general) are not covered in scales under their suits, but are actually incredibly friendly, approachable and most definitely human!
